I didn’t know I could love another living creature so much until I found my Bali Dog Ada (I know that sounds lame but she is seriously the best thing ever) in a pile of trash outside my home in Bali, and by found I mean she basically found me. I brought her home for a bath and a meal and the rest is history. She’s now a Bali dog in Canada enjoying the ice and digging in the snow instead of the sand. Because of Ada I got to meet some amazing people like Libby. I clicked with Libby instantly when I met her. She is kind, down to earth and lovely to be around. I had been
stalking following her on Instagram for a while because he pet accessories are absolutely beautiful when I decided to message her and try to purchase some of the things she was selling. I didn’t realize that a portion of the profits went to amazing organizations that help the many street dogs of Bali until I met up with her at the market to pick up my purchases. I’m so honoured to have met Libby and I knew I had to share her incredible company and story with you. Read, share, and follow her on social media. This girl is seriously awesome!
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF AND WHAT YOU DO
My name is Libby and I am the founder of Bali Paws. We make handmade accessories for pets on the island of Bali and a portion of our profits go to funding programs that help Bali’s street dogs. Growing up in the United States I had a lovely childhood in a beach town. I always stuck close to home and loved my comfort zone so it’s quite crazy to say that I have now lived outside of the US for over 5 years! I am currently living in Bali, Indonesia and have become very passionate about helping raise awareness for the Bali street dogs in need of extra love and attention!
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO START bali paws?
Upon moving to Bali I knew that I wanted to foster a Bali dog. When Scout arrived to our home I wanted a pretty picture of her to send back home to my family and friends. I jumped online and looked for a shop where I could pick up a bandana or bowtie – but there was nothing! I felt this was an untapped market in Bali so decided to make a trip to the Denpasar Fabric district and have a few samples created. A few weeks later I met Prue from Mission Paws’ible and after hearing her story and passion for Bali dogs I knew right then I wanted to give back too! I had already created my first few bandanas so I decided to Incorporate proceeds from each sale back to helping Bali dogs!
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Oh! I am inspired by tropical landscapes – banana leaves and palm trees, hence the reason why many of Bali Paws bandanas incorporate tropical motifs!
WHAT IS YOUR Personal MANTRA OR MISSION STATEMENT?
I have to piggy-back on Mission Paws’ible here and say “every mission is possible!” I am now a sole rescuer (with the help of Mission Paw’sible!) and have rescued two street dogs on my own! I catch myself looking at their before and after photos every day and truly believe that every rescue mission if possible!
WHAT DOES HAPPINESS MEAN TO YOU?
For me happiness is exploring new places – maybe that’s why I ended up in Bali!
WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES?
Right now there are no time for hobbies! Each morning I wake up when my husband takes off for work and start working away on Bali Paws – from processing orders to thinking up new ideas all of my time is dedicated to Bali Paws, but it makes me so happy and content that I feel like this work is now becoming a hobby.
WHAT ARE A FEW THINGS YOU DO EVERY SINGLE DAY TO KEEP YOURSELF ON TRACK?
Every evening my husband and I have dinner together. We enjoy trying new places, but also sticking to our favorites like Bro Resto for a Bintang and dumplings.
IF YOU COULD GIVE ADVICE TO SOMEONE LOOKING TO GET INTO YOUR FIELD WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
Make sure there is a passion behind your message! I love the Bali Dogs and without this passion I don’t think I would be satisfied doing what I do. One of my favourite parts of Bali Paws is attending markets on the weekend where I sell dog bandanas. I really enjoy talking to customers and telling them about Bali Dogs and the work Mission Paws’ible does here in Bali!
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST REWARDING EXPERIENCE SO FAR? WORK OR PERSONAL
Staying on the topic of Bali Paws I would have to say the most rewarding experience has seen the transformation of Willow. I rescued Willow on the beach (after she was admittedly dumped by her previous owners because she had a skin disease) In just 8 weeks time she is healthy, happy and full of black fur! You can see more of Willow’s story by following Mission Paw’sible on Instagram
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE YOU’VE OVERCOME IN YOUR LIFE THUS FAR? WHAT DID YOU LEARN? ARE YOU THANKFUL FOR WHAT IT TAUGHT YOU?
I used to be very shy! Growing up I didn’t make new friends very easily and always hung close to home. I even chose where I went to college based on the proximity to my hometown. I really overcame this fear after my best friend and I took our first overseas trip backpacking through Australia and New Zealand. I was pushed out of my comfort zone. Now I love meeting new people on my own and this is part of why Bali Paws has been successful thus far!
WHO IS YOUR ROLE MODEL/ WHO HAS BEEN THE MOST INFLUENTIAL PERSON IN YOUR LIFE?
All four of my grandparents. Nani, Papa, Nana and Dadoo are individual so different that I learned so many unique and different qualities from each of them. I am blessed at the age of 29 to still have all four grandparents alive and living in my hometown. Daddo taught me to express my creativity, Nana taught me to remain organized and calm, Nani showed my how to laugh without caring, and Papa set the example for true unconditional love.
WHEN DO YOU FEEL MOST INSPIRED?
I am inspired around others. I love hearing what makes them happy and content. Living abroad has opened my eyes and ears to so many unique people and stories.
